My poor son has the same problem with getting absolutely eaten alive by mosquitos that I do. I feel so bad, but I didn’t want to put the bug bite balm on him from the store because I just don’t know what chemicals is in them or what’s safe for his sensitive skin. So I decided to make this DIY bug bite balm in hopes it would help, and it does! It’s not only great for him, but for me too.
Which is a life saver because I attract mosquitoes like no tomorrow. Seriously, with how wet this summer has been I can’t exit my house without walking into a swarm of mosquitoes, and they somehow keep sneaking into the house. It’s ridiculous.
I’ve been using it on all my bug bites, not just mosquitoes and it’s been working so nicely. It’s moisurtizing as well, it also has a lot of citrus in it which bugs aren’t a fan of so it can help repel bugs as well. Two in one!
Just like my other DIY’s it is not very time consuming and can last quite awhile. The products in this are pretty common, the only one you might not have just laying around it pure shea butter, in that case amazon sells some for great prices!
2 tablespoons pure shea butter
2 tablespoons coconut oil
4 tablespoons beeswax
Sage, lavender, teatree, lemongrass essential oils
A container or old lip balm container
How to make this DIY bug bite balm
- Melt all your ingrediants together over a double boiler
2. Pour into your container and let dry.
That’s it! I told you it was easy, now apply to any of those crazy itchy spots! If you have some extra beeswax hanging around check out my DIY beeswrap and put that beeswax to use!
